Recruitment

Recruitment in forensic science laboratories or government departments is conducted through multiple pathways to ensure the right mix of skilled, experienced, and temporary workforce. The four primary modes of recruitment are as follows:

1. Permanent Recruitment

Permanent recruitment involves selecting candidates on a regular, long-term basis. These employees are enrolled under the government service rules and enjoy full benefits, including pensions, health insurance, leave entitlements, and career progression opportunities. Permanent staff usually occupy core scientific, administrative, and managerial positions and form the backbone of the organization.

2. Contractual Recruitment by Government DFSL

Contractual recruitment is carried out directly by the Government through the Directorate of Forensic Science Laboratories (DFSL) for specific projects or temporary assignments. Employees recruited this way are employed for a fixed period and are often tasked with specialized scientific, technical, or administrative roles. Contractual staff may receive allowances and limited benefits but are not entitled to full permanent service perks. This mode allows flexibility in managing workforce for emerging requirements or temporary workload surges.

3. Outsourcing

Outsourcing involves hiring personnel through external agencies or service providers to fulfill non-core functions such as laboratory support, clerical work, cleaning, or logistics. Outsourced employees help reduce administrative burdens and operational costs while ensuring efficient service delivery. This approach allows the organization to scale workforce up or down according to workload requirements without long-term commitments.

4. Internship

Internship programs are offered to students, research scholars, or trainees for a limited period to gain practical exposure and hands-on experience in forensic science operations. Interns contribute to research projects, laboratory experiments, and administrative tasks under close supervision. Internships help in developing a future talent pool while providing learning opportunities for aspiring forensic professionals.
